Monday blue? Well not for me this Monday! :D
First I had a wonderful lunch at Xris's house which reminded me of the days when I still had the chance to eat my mum's cooking. Home sweet home..., the kind of cooking that warmth you up entirely! :)
Nothing beats but good food throughout the day...
Thank you MooJaa for inviting me and my guest to a food tasting session at their first Mookata Thai BBQ Steamboat/Barbecue outlet.
Some of you might be wondering what is Mookata.
Well, "Moo Ka Ta", for the uninitiated, literally means "Pork Skillet" in Thai and refers to the special cooking apparatus created to enjoy both barbecue and hot pot at the same time.
How it works?
Below placed a crock of charcoal with a trough of soup that sits on it, and with a dome shaped grill placed on the trough. Allowing the smoke from the charcoal to waft up to the grill, perfuming the meats with some seriously fragrant "wok hei" (wok's breath)
At MooJaa, only quality Binchotan Japanese Charcoal is served. Some unique charcoal I've not seen before, unlike the normal BBQ charcoal we all used. These one doesn't produce the soot like the black charcoal and do not cause the food to be acidic after BBQ-ing.

This is my first time trying Mookata and it's one "learning-Journey" food tasting session for me at MooJaa this evening :)
Before starting, a cube of pork lard was place at the top of the dome, and it melted into unctuous fatty goodness, adding a great fragrance and crisp to the meats barbecued on the dome. I added like more than one time of the pork lard layer, but I heard that one time is enough :P
A side tip: The pork lard can be taken off from the dome at any time if there's not enough space at the top of the dome to lay all your meat. Well, I had a hard time preventing my chuck of meat from falling into the soup based. Hahaha! I had fun laughing at myself though. lol. I guessed I need more practice on that! My friend who tagged along with me is quite skilful with that worh. :P
Moo Ka ta is probably one of the most popular get together meal among the Thai. And it is definitely becoming one of Singaporean get together meal too.
At MooJaa, the price is consider reasonably cheap and the quality is good, ingredients is fresh and no cheap luncheon meat or cheap hot dog seen.
Sorry ladies & gentlemen, all the nice hot dog, tofu, Hokkaido scallops etc got eaten by me before the camera can made its way on to the table. :P
Some of you might know that this concept has been catching up on in Singapore lately and MooJaa is the latest edition. Opened for barely less than 4 months, MooJaa serves good quality Thai BBQ Steamboat.
Something that I am addicted to the most are the two popular dipping sauces offered at MooJaa.
The Sweet Sour Seafood & The Spicy BBQ Sauce.
When I heard that these sauces are prepared from scratch fresh weekly in small batches with 31 different ingredients, involving 6hrs of non-stop stirring, I was stunned for a moment. lol.
I love the Sweet Sour Seafood sauce alot as it's not too spicy. So for people who go for the volcano kind of spiciness, the Spicy BBQ sauce is just for you. In fact most Thai loves the Spicy BBQ sauce. ^^
No doubt both the sauces are full of tangy, unami flavours that enhance the good quality meat. Dipping anything with them taste as good too.
Their soup is another secret recipe of MooJaa. I have never taste any soup base as nice as theirs!
The soup base is brewed for 5hrs to create a chicken and pork bone broth that's tasty and light in the beginning, and turns incredibly flavourful and complex by the middle of the Moo Ka Ta session.
At the end of the session, it feels awesome to finish it off with a cup of MooJaa well known house-brewed Thai Iced Milk Tea.
The range of food available for steamboat BBQ at MooJaa is good but not too intensive, with options similar to what you'll find at other steamboat places. However, the difference with Thai steamboat and barbecue is in the unique preparation method of Moo
Ka ta, the unique dipping sauces for the food and their Thai Milk Tea.
MooJaa also served lunch Ala carte such as Green Curry Chicken, Pineapple fried rice, Basil Leaf Pork( w/o century egg) etc.
Hehe me and my friend, finally his identity is exposed.
A new word learnt uh! After a session of Moo Ka ta at MooJaa with your love ones, you know what to do! :P (Whatever you want to do lah hor, Hahahahaa!)
